INTERVIEW: NOFIT STATE CIRCUS
Ella Parry-Davies meets pioneering contemporary circus company NoFit State to discuss their latest production Bianco. Creative producer Tom Rack, head rigger Lyndall Merry and performer Sage Cushman describe themselves as ‘ordinary people doing extraordinary things,’ and fill us in on the importance of expression, purity and accessibility to the artform, as well as the problematics of gender in performance roles. Putting women in places where you’d expect men to be gives a piece a whole different dynamic, and helps to give layering and depth to the show in a way that isn’t about gender separation and gender specific roles.
