INTERVIEW: ALECKY BLYTHE (2/2)
The verbatim theatre-maker talks about Do We Look Like Refugees?!, a verbatim play created from interviews recorded in a Georgian refugee settlement with people who lost their homes after the 2008 August War. It was produced in collaboration with the National Theatre Studio, the Rustaveli Theatre in Tbilisi and the British Council Georgia. Dominic Cavendish quizzes. Recorded: 14 May 2011.
It’s a piece about the strength of human spirit to overcome adversity. The Georgians have this wonderful spirit and love of life, and drinking, and love, and I think that comes through – it’s a celebration of Georgian people, I think. Compared to London Road, it’s a small piece, but I’m very proud of it.
