ASIAN VOICES: THUSITHA JAYASUNDRA
The Sri Lankan actress, based in the UK, talks to Suman Bhuchar about appearing as the crippled Fatima, a pivotal role in Behind the Beautiful Forevers, the David Hare adaptation of Katherine Boo’s factional novel about life in a Mumbai slum. Recorded at the National Theatre, 9 January 2015.
Because her story is so compressed, within the play it takes place in the first half of the piece… And so I do feel a certain pressure… to try and bring some of the complexity to the scene that she has.
