INTERVIEW: HELENE THIAN (1/2)
Amber Butchart in conversation with the fashion historian and Japan consultant, as part of the Bowie Weekender at the V&A. A former speaker at the Costume Society and the first David Bowie Symposium in Ireland last year, Thian’s research was used by the V&A to inform aspects of the ‘David Bowie Is’ exhibition. The discussion focuses on her research, looking at the designs of Kansai Yamamoto and the theatre of Lindsay Kemp, especially the influence of Kabuki theatre and Japanese costume and how these were articulated in Bowie’s performances.
