ARCHIVE INTERVIEW: JONATHAN MILLER. The legendary late director Jonathan Miller spoke to Judi Herman about his fifth – and final – attempt at King Lear in 2015. Having directed Northern Broadsides’ artistic director Barrie Rutter in the title role, Miller shared his thoughts on the play, before giving an impromptu masterclass on how to speak Shakespearean verse naturally. Recorded in London, 25th March 2015.
“I think it’s the best of all Shakespeare’s plays. And it’s the easiest one in which to eliminate something which I find very disconcerting, which is verse. I simply want to hear people talking and that’s the only thing that ever interests me at all”
