To coincide with the unveiling of the £112.8m improved, enhanced and astounding Royal Shakespeare (RST) and Swan theatres, Michael Boyd – artistic director of the RSC – talks to Carole Woddis about this major new chapter in the company’s near 50-year-history.
If theatre is going to achieve that gift of community on a scale that allows it to take part in mainstream culture, it has to be in a large auditorium.
