The award-winning composer and lyricist talk to Dominic Cavendish about their latest musical, Betty Blue Eyes, a large-scale adaptation of A Private Function, the Alan Bennett film about life, and pigs, in austerity Britain (book by Rob Cowen and Daniel Lipman) opening at the Novello this month. We both had a vague recollection of the film. We both knew it featured Maggie Smith and a pig – and Michael Palin.
